THE ORIGIN STORY

I started Objects by Phoebe as an act of rebellion.
In 2020, my efforts led to working in a creative career digitally. I was working a 9am - 5pm graphic and branding role, then clocked off and attended my studies from 6pm - 9pm. At the time, I had graduated in Industrial Design, and made my way to studying a Masters of Design, majoring in UX/UI and HCI (long name, I know).
Upon graduating, I realised one thing.
I had an infinity gauntlet.
I was taught a plethora of techniques. Methods to scrolling. Technological systems to brainwash people. Skills designed to make people addicted. To feed into the system.
The moral and ethical implications in design became apparent, leading to my resistance to finding a job in my field. An immature thought, now that I reflect upon but I was young.
At 23, I was caught up by so many questions that could not be brushed away, no matter how hard I tried.
What was my responsibility as a designer? What type of designer did I want to become? Who am I designing for? I became apparent that to me, I truly believed that designers have a superpower. *"As designers, we are responsible for the future changes of the world."*It was then, I became paralysed. And like any existential 23 year old, I decided to travel to Europe (and have a hot girl summer)Making things with my hands was absent in my life, so I decided to make it a life mission to explore other mediums of creativity. Dabbling in painting, mixed media, even gardening! Eventually, I found my way to ceramics. Ironically, one of the oldest forms of craft in history became my newfound obsession.
